(From SEF to SIP revisited …)

For the attention of:
Primary, Infant, First, Middle and Junior Schools:
Head Teachers, Deputy Head Teachers and Senior Management Teams
Following pleas from around the country, this course is run over two consecutive days, but in order to meet everyone’s needs, each day is also entirely suitable as a stand - alone course in itself.
This course is especially suitable for several members of a leadership team who wish to spend quality time; discounts will be given for more than one member of each school, and also for any colleagues wishing to attend both days.

Day One: Successful Self Evaluation

This course stems from the premise that school improvement should lie at the heart of everything that the school does, and that accurate and successful school self evaluation underpins and indeed is the very foundation upon which all school development is built. This Course offers the opportunity to look at a wide range of evidence to support self evaluation, and to analyse what this might be saying about context, standards, progress and achievement.

Day Two: Strategic School Improvement
This second day looks at all elements of strategic school improvement

NB: Workshop elements are built into both days, so delegates should bring laptops and any other relevant associated materials – for example, RAISE, the current SEF and the current SIP. (The SEF and SIP can be at whatever stage of writing, and support will be given towards an effective end product). During the workshop sessions, participants will evaluate the effectiveness of their own self evaluation procedures, and work towards goals and actions for improvement.

Day One offers the opportunity to:

  • Explore the complexities of Self Evaluation
  • Use self evaluation to support judgments on effectiveness
  • Use self evaluation to link school outcomes to the provision
  • Have supported analysis of issues which arise from monitoring
  • Explore the development of evidence trails from key questions
  • Order and prioritise the results of self evaluation
  • Consider the more rigorous expectations of the new inspection model
  • Make clear the relationship between self evaluation and school improvement

Day Two offers the opportunity to:

  • Make clear links between self evaluation and the goals and vision for the school
  • Analyse each stage of school improvement planning
  • Devise a School Improvement Planning model which cuts straight to the heart of action
  • Decide on the right prioritisation of action to be taken
  • Consider the best strategies for improvement within the more rigorous expectations of the new inspection model
  • Plan monitoring, evaluation and review into the School Improvement Cycle
  • Make clear links to Performance Management and CPD for all members of staff

Benefits of attending both or either day will be:

  • A more evidenced based approach to Self Evaluation.
  • A greater ability to analyse the data to hand and use it to improve provision
  • A more up to date awareness of what will be required in need based school improvement

Let Self Evaluation be “Your Springboard for ACTION”
