New to Headship?

 Meeting the Challenge

This course is suitable as a consultancy day, tailored to meet the needs of the new, or aspiring head. It is also very effective for clusters of schools, all new heads, or Deputy Heads newly appointed to headship within a local area or authority.

Course overview

What are the main elements of the day?

  • Personal challenge: Where does the buck stop now?
  • Challenge of leadership: Working with staff
  • Challenge of perception: Analysis and evaluation of status quo
  • Challenge of vision: First steps to improvement
  • Challenge of letting go: Distributive leadership
  • Challenge for all: Ensuring a lasting impact
  • Challenge to all: Accountability matters

This course links many of the theoretical aspects of leadership explored in the NCSL programmes with practical applications for head teachers. It gives new and aspiring head teachers the opportunity to reflect on their own potential as leaders, with strategies to ensure that this potential is reached.

This training or consultancy supports new head teachers in the transition from being a supportive leader to being the leader of leaders. It takes the theory, and turns it into practical applications.
