GAL Education are producing a series of books over the next few months, written specifically to support schools through an intensive self evaluation of all aspects of school life – the outcomes, the quality of provision, and the effectiveness of leadership and management. Each one covers a single SEF section – such as The Curriculum – to help schools evidence and support their judgements for each section.
Each book incorporates all of the relevant Ofsted criteria and Guidance for Inspectors, to develop an effective model for self evaluation and school improvement. The summary tables and analysis support questions are effective when working with governors, the Local Authority, SIPs and during an Ofsted inspection.
This, then, is the route which is taken throughout this series, as a diagnostic, developmental and definitive approach to school improvement:
By using these books leaders will be able to support:
Book 1: The Curriculum
This 1st book in the 3D Evaluation series supports the school in a full diagnostic and analytical evaluation of the effectiveness of the curriculum. The key to this section of the SEF is to be able to compare the provision – in this case, the curriculum – with a variety of outcomes, and so to evaluate the impact of leadership on the curriculum itself.
This book can also be used to evaluate the effectiveness of different subjects, or areas for learning. Questions will then begin … To what extent does this subject ….
The concepts behind this book can also be provided as consultancy for heads and school leaders, with the offer of 50% off the cost of the publication.
This consultancy day uses the materials within the book to support an audit of the curriculum, related specifically to the needs of the school – from what leaders are currently doing, to a range of developmental strategies. School leaders will have the opportunity to discuss all aspects of the day in the context of their own school and to be supported by a range of tailor made solutions.
